2nd round assessment from Egmont Group Delegation (UIF Angola)

An important mission took place from December 9 to 13, 2024 with the visit of the uif Angola (Financial Intelligence Unit of Angola), which supports Madagascar in its objective of integrating SAMIFIN into the Egmont group of financial intelligence units. This visit made it possible to assess SAMIFIN 's preparation to join this international group, by carrying out what is called a " readiness " exercise " to determine whether Madagascar is ready to meet the criteria necessary to be part of it.

 

A comprehensive assessment of Madagascar's preparedness

The main objective of this mission was to carry out an assessment of SAMIFIN 's preparation to join the Egmont Group, in accordance with the recommendations of the FATF (Financial Action Task Force). To do this, meetings were held with various parties involving Malagasy, including key institutions such as PAC , BIANCO , ARAI , as well as Law Enforcment Agencies from the National Gendarmerie , the National Police and Interpol .

In addition, UIF Angola met with subject institutions such as banks , mobile money services , insurance companies , and DNFBPs (Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions) , in order to assess the compliance and cooperation of the various players in the Malagasy financial sector.

 

Objective 2025: Integration into the Egmont group

The integration of SAMIFIN into the Egmont group is a major strategic objective for Madagascar. This membership will not only improve international cooperation in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing, but also strengthen the effectiveness of financial intelligence actions at the national and regional levels.

The Egmont Group , which brings together Financial Intelligence Units from different countries, is a key network in sharing information and coordinating efforts to combat financial crimes. Membership in the Egmont Group is a guarantee of international compliance and helps strengthen the governance and security of the Malagasy financial system.

This visit marks a key milestone for SAMIFI N in its journey towards integration into the Egmont Group. With the target set for 2025 , Madagascar is on track to strengthen its role in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing, and to improve transparency and international cooperation in financial intelligence.
